DFW volleyball coaches hit career milestones

Mansfield’s Julie Price, a three-time state champion, won her 600th career volleyball match last week during the Mansfield ISD Tournament. Three days later, Aledo’s Claire Gay won her 500th match.

Price won three straight titles from 2010-12, one with Austin Lake Travis and two with Coppell.

This is her first year with Mansfield.

Gay is a two-time state champ, winning two in three years with Decatur. This is Gay’s seventh season with the Ladycats.

But Price and Gay weren’t the only ones celebrating career milestones during the week. While wrapping up a consolation championship at the Denton Ryan Classic last week, Karli Morrison won her 300th career game. She’s in her second year with the Kangaroos.

One day after Gay’s 500th, Plano John Paul II’s Amanda Lee and Glen Rose’s Sandy Langford joined the club with their 500th wins. The Cardinals got a 3-0 sweep over Greenhill while the Tigers defeated China Spring.

During the Glen Rose tournament this week, Blum’s Lauren McPherson won her 400th game. McPherson graduated from Blum and has been on staff at her alma mater for nearly two decades. She has built Blum into one of the premier Class 1A programs in the state, which included its first state title last fall.

Forney finished runner-up at the Haltom tournament this week, during which the Jackrabbits gave coach Michelle Eitel her 400th career win. Forney won 42 games last season.
