Brock upsets Liberty in regional final, faces top-ranked Carter in semis

Eli Paez surpassed a career milestone on Friday night, leading Brock to an upset 56-42 win over Lubbock Liberty in the Class 4A D2 Region 1 final at Clyde High School.

Paez, a junior, dropped a game-high 17 points to go over 1,000 in his career. Brady Williams and Will McGee chipped in 13 and 11, respectively. 

Brock (28-9), No. 24 in the 4A state rankings according to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, advances to its first state semifinal since 2021 to take on No. 1 Dallas Carter (29-6). 

Carter beat Kennedale 76-58 on Friday night. 

No. 9 Liberty (30-5) got 16 points from Pierce Fioroni. 

The Eagles led 17-9 following the opening quarter and 31-22 at the intermission.

Liberty cut its deficit to 42-34 going into the final period, but Brock’s defense allowed just eight points in the fourth.
