GEORGETOWN – The Keller girls soccer team made some history on Saturday – playing in the first UIL state championship for any soccer team – boys or girls – in Keller ISD.

Keller beat Sachse in overtime during the state semifinals, but the magic ran out in a 3-1 loss against Round Rock in the Class 6A D1 title match at Birkelbach Field.

The Indians finished 22-5-1.

The only other time Keller reached the Final Four came in 2017, but the Indians lost in the semifinals.

Round Rock goes 22-2-4 with its first title in its first appearance.

Keller got the early momentum with a goal in the 10th minute. Sophomore midfielder Giulianna LaPuma drilled a shot unassisted from about 15 yards away to give the Indians a 1-nil lead.

However, it was the only shot of the first half for Keller.

The Dragons got off 4 shots in the first 40 minutes and got one to go in the 19th minute when Audrey Redus and Aidan Hernandez found Grace El-Deir for the 1-1 tie.

Looking to go into the intermission all even, Round Rock pushed possession inside the box and drew a foul to set up a penalty kick in the 39th minute.

Hernandez made the PK with 48 seconds on the clock to give Round Rock a 2-1 edge at the break.

The Dragons had 4 more shots in the second half and 8 total compared to 2 total for Keller. Additionally, Round Rock finished with 9 corners against 3 for Keller.

Playing pretty even after halftime, it wasn’t until the 69th minute when Round Rock scored some insurance as Hernandez got her second for the brace that gave the Dragons a 3-1 advantage.

Senior midfielder Carlee Deegan had the assist on the play.

Keller will gradaute 8 seniors.
