Week 4 Round-Up: Lovejoy defeats Anna in shootout, SL Carroll outlasts Euless Trinity

Lovejoy 66, Anna 62

The Leopards and Coyotes combined for over 1,100 yards as Lovejoy outlasted Anna in an offensive shootout on Friday night in District 4-5A D2. Lovejoy QB Jacob Janecek threw for 300 yards and six touchdowns. His counterpart, Anna QB Ziondre Williams threw for three touchdowns and rushed for three. Janecek also ran for 125 yards and two touchdowns. Seven different players caught a touchdown pass in the contest.

Lovejoy (2-2, 2-0) led 49-41 at halftime as both teams scored 28 points in the second quarter.

After the Leopards scored on a 62-yard TD run by Zach Jones to extend the lead to 56-41 early in the third quarter, Anna responded with 15 straight points with a TD run by Williams and a TD pass from Williams to Ashton Ansley that made it 56-55 at the end of the frame.

A 25-yard scoring run by Williams gave Anna the lead at 62-59 with 5:18 left in the game. Lovejoy regained the lead at 66-62 with 3:08 left on a 17-yard strike from Janecek to Daylan McCutcheon.

Anna (1-2, 0-1) was able to drive downfield for the potential game-winning touchdown. The Coyotes got to the Lovejoy 18, but after a 1-yard loss that set up fourth-and-6, a pass attempt was picked off by Andy Turnbow on the final play of the game.

Following back-to-back losses to open the season, Lovejoy has won two straight while putting up 76 and 66 points in consecutive weeks for legendary head coach Todd Dodge, who’s in his first year with the Leopards.

Southlake Carroll 56, Euless Trinity 48

The Dragons led 35-7 before holding off a second-half surge by the Trojans to win the District 4-6A contest on Friday at Pennington Field. Davis Penn and Riley Wormley had touchdown runs in the first quarter as SLC led 14-0.

Then Carroll (4-0, 2-0) scored 21 straight highlighted by a Wormley 75-yard TD run to extend the margin to 35-7 with 2:13 left in the second quarter. Trinity was able to get one in just before halftime on a TD run by TJ Tupou.

The Trojans (3-1, 1-1) got within one score following touchdown run by Tupou and Michael Saafi. JT Harris added an 8-yard TD run and it was 42-34 Carroll with 13 seconds to go in the third quarter. Both teams would continue to trade touchdowns to end the game as the Trojans could never get any closer than eight points.

Like Lovejoy-Anna, Carroll and Trinity amassed over 1,100 yards on offense. SLC QB Angelo Renda threw for 376 yards and five touchdowns. Wormley rushed for 183 and two touchdowns. Tupou was 20 of 23 for 267 yards and totaled four touchdowns.

North Crowley 70, Rockwall 17

North Crowley improved to 4-0 this season after a blowout win at Rockwall on Thursday. After a 14-10 game in the first quarter, the Panthers would outscore the Yellowjackets 56-7 in the second and third quarters.

The Panthers gained nearly 600 yards with QB Chris Jimerson throwing for 220 yards and five touchdowns. He continues to connect with his favorite receiver in Quentin Gibson, who finished with 86 yards and three touchdowns. He also added a 32-yard TD run.

Arlington Seguin 41, Grapevine 3

Seguin QB Chevy Andrews threw for 350 yards and four touchdowns as the Cougars improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in District 3-5A D2 on Thursday night. Carterrious Brown made six catches for 175 yards and three touchdowns. Malachi Meche added 117 yards and one touchdown.

Mansfield 29, Waco Midway 15

After trailing 12-7 at halftime and 15-14 in the third quarter, the Mansfield Tigers scored 15 straight points to knock off Midway and stay perfect at 4-0. Teddy Clark scored on a 2-yard run late in the third quarter. Braxton Van Cleave threw a 61-yard TD pass to Jacobe Hayes in the fourth to finish off the Panthers.

Alvarado 55, Waco Connally 42

Knotted at 35-35 going into the fourth quarter, Alvarado outscored Connally 20-7 in the final frame to pull out the win and go to 4-0 this season. The Indians rushed for 393 yards led by Demarcus Belton’s 232 on 25 carries and three touchdowns. Cardea Collier also scored three rushing TDs and added 150 yards on the ground. Collier threw for 315 yards and two touchdowns. Logan Bjork and Hunter Byerley combined for seven catches for 271 yards. Bjork caught both TD passes.

Cedar Hill 34, Dallas Skyline 15

The Longhorns gained over 500 yards on offense as they defeated the Raiders in their District 11-6A opener. Both teams are 2-2 overall this season. Cedar Hill QB Tamarion Crochett threw for 290 yards and three touchdowns – one to Keylon Davis, Cedric Mills and CJ Castleberry. Davis and Mills combined for 12 catches and 239 yards. Tramell Minter led Skyline with 185 yards on just six carries and one touchdown. Cedar Hill led 19-8 after the opening quarter and 27-15 at halftime.
