DeSoto’s SaRod Baker, who had all-time playoff performance, commits to Texas Tech

Rivals and Dave Campbell’s Football Texas reported on Monday that DeSoto 4-star 2027 running back SaRod Baker has committed to Texas Tech.

Tech is coached by former Cedar Hill coach Joey McGuire.

The Red Raiders went 12-2 last season, winning the Big 12 Championship over BYU before losing to Oregon in the Capital One Orange Bowl.

According to 247Sports, Baker is ranked as high as #8 among all 2027 running backs in the country while coming in #18 in the state and #145 nationally for his class.

Baker committed with the Red Raiders over 35 other offers on 247Sports, which included Texas, Texas A&M, Colorado, Florida, Michigan, Missouri, Oregon, Ohio State, USC, TCU and Wisconsin.

Baker put together one of the best seasons and greatest playoff runs all time last season during his junior year with the Eagles.

Baker finished with just over 3,200 yards rushing and 46 rush touchdowns. Additionally, Baker amassed over 4,400 all-purpose yards and 55 total touchdowns.

After being held to 34 yards rushing in Week 1 against Creekside (GA), Baker rumbled off 100 or more yards rushing in the final 15 games.

In 6 playoff games, Baker rushed for 1,628 yards and 21 touchdowns.

In the playoffs, Baker had rushing totals of 374, 381 and 366. Baker rushed for 5 touchdowns against Longview in the area round. He rushed for 381 yards and 7 touchdowns during DeSoto’s 60-41 win over Willis in the 6A D2 Region 2 Championship.

During the state semifinals against Southlake Carroll, Baker led a furious comeback to beat the Dragons 57-44. Baker finished with 366 yards on the ground and 3 touchdowns, including a 99-yard TD run as time expired.

In the 6A D2 title game vs. CE King, Baker added 125 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns.

DeSoto went 13-3 capped with a 55-27 win over King for the program’s 3rd state championship in the past 4 seasons.

The Eagles will be playing in Class 5A D1 for the next 2 seasons – joining District 8-5A D1 with Burleson Centennial, Cedar Hill, Cleburne, Lancaster, Mansfield Legacy, Mansfield Summit and Midlothian.

247Sports lists Baker at 5-foot-9 and 196 pounds.

Baker finished off the 2025 season as GM Sports Media/Gray Wolf Promotions DFW All-Area Offensive MVP and 2025 DFW Male Athlete Of The Year.
