Ethan “Boobie” Feaster was voted Offensive MVP with 10 catches, 167 yards and two touchdowns to help lead the DeSoto Eagles past Houston King on Saturday in the Class 6A D2 title game.
One day later and Feaster signed his letter of intent on Sunday with Southern Cal.
Early signing period was at the beginning in December, but Feaster chose to postpone his signing until after the season – showing a sign of unselfishness to his coach Claude Mathis and his team.
“That set the tone,” Mathis said after the game. “That set the tone for all our players. It let them know that he’s just worried about a state championship. It’s one of the biggest days that’s out there. I can’t thank him enough because he knew it was about the team.”
Feaster had over 1,500 yards receiving this season for DeSoto. He also played cornerback and had two big plays late in the fourth quarter to beat Southlake Carroll in the semifinal round.
Feaster is ranked as high as the #4 WR in the country for his class and #4 overall prospect in the state. He chose USC in the summer and had over 50 offers, according to 247Sports.
DeSoto won its third title in the past four years.
“One thing I want to show coach Mathis is that I care,” he said. “So if you feel like I should have waited to sign after the state championship, I’d make sure I did that. I just want to show him that I am focused on this team and I want the team to understand that I was focused on the state championship.”
