Northwest 3, Eastwood 2

Levariya Pinder poured in a dominating 32 kills on 0.400 hitting as Justin Northwest edged out El Paso Eastwood in five sets during their Class 6A D2 area round championship on Tuesday.

Northwest head coach Jennifer Chandler picked up her 500th career win.

The Texans will play Flower Mound in the Region 1 semifinals at 6 pm Thursday from Thomas Coliseum in Haltom City. Flower Mound swept JJ Pearce on Monday.

Pinder, who is committed to SMU, had a double-double with 18 digs. Setter Payton Zondor recorded 51 assists, 13 digs, 3.5 blocks and 3 kills. LSU commit Kiley Brooks led both teams with 31 digs.

Landri Barnett added 10 kills.

Chandler is in her 10th season with Northwest, which is in the 6A playoffs for the first time.

Byron Nelson 3, Midland 0

The nation’s #1 team Byron Nelson took down Midland 25-16, 25-15, 25-17 in their Class 6A D1 area round on Tuesday. The Bobcats are 38-0 this season and on a 74-match win streak. They take on Allen in the Region 1 semifinals after the Eagles swept Arlington Martin in the area round.

Coach Bri Groth had three players with 10+ kills in AJ Seay (17), Kylie Kleckner (15) and Kherynton Chinnis (10). Seay and Kleckner had double-doubles with 14 and 10 digs, and Savannah Sterna was second on the team with 13 digs. #1 setter Sophee Peterson had 48 assists.

7-4A still perfect

After two rounds of the playoffs, District 7-4A is 8-0 with Eagle Mountain, Springtown, Decatur, Krum. Eagle Mountain and Krum picked up upsets with Lubbock Cooper Liberty and Brock, respectively. Springtown and Decatur swept Lubbock Frenship Memorial and Stephenville, respectively.

Eagle Mountain got 25 kills combined from Brooke Lacewell and Keoni Williams while five different players had 10+ digs. Molly Aubert led all teams with 33 digs.

Springtown got 16 kills and 8 digs from Libby Tedder and Ryleigh Strickland filled up the box score with 16 assists, 8 digs and 6 kills. Brooklynn Quintanilla had a team-high 13 digs.

Springtown faces Andrews in the 4A D1 Region 1 semis while Decatur gets Canyon West Plains. In the 4A D2 Region 1 semis, Krum faces Canyon Randall while Eagle Mountain plays Canyon.

7-4A is one of two local districts to still have all four playoff teams in the postseason along with District 9-4A – Aubrey, Celina, Prosper Richland and Frisco Panther Creek.
