BROCK— On the night the Brock Eagles honored their 2015 state championship team, the current squad put on a stellar performance for everyone in attendance. It was a full circle moment as the Eagles hosted the nearby rival Mineral Wells Rams, head coached by Cody Worrell who was an assistant coach for that state title a decade ago.
It did not take long for Brock to take control of the game. The defense was dominant from the start and did not let the Rams gain any traction aside from one drive in the second half, en route to a 55-7 victory.
“I can put them up there with all the good teams we’ve had,” head coach Billy Mathis said after the game. “We play good football, and we’re very blessed to have good football players; guys who care, guys who show up and do all the hard work because they want to win. We want to stay one-week-at-a-time but I like our chances.”
A fumble on the opening drive delayed the Eagles getting on the scoreboard, but after a quick three-and-out quarterback Holt Frazier connected with Colt Matlock on the deep post for the 27-yard touchdown. After another stop, senior running back Dash Lindsey began his big game with a three yard touchdown to bring the score to 13-0 after one quarter.

The Eagles found the endzone thrice more in the second quarter. Bryer McDonald found paydirt on a three yard run up the middle early in the quarter. Just under three minutes later, Frazier threw one up for Davis Lee who had broken free behind the defense for a 42 yard touchdown. Then, after a big defensive stop around midfield, Frazier connected with Matlock again from 51 yards out to make the score 34-0 at the half.
Mineral Wells finally got on the board on the opening drive of the second half when Jordan Johnson helped lead the Rams methodically down the field for over six minutes until he finally punched it in from three yards out.
Brock’s defense was perfect from there, as Mineral Wells never scored again. In the fourth quarter, the running backs took back over Lindsey scored twice from 17 and 26 yards respectively, and McDonald added one more from six yards out to solidify the win with a final score of 55-7.

The win moves Brock to a perfect 7-0 on the season and 2-0 in district 3-4A DII. They will be on the road next week to take on Burkburnett. Meanwhile, Mineral Wells falls to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the district. They will be back at home next Friday to face Graham.
