GM Sports Media welcomes Chuck Licata and Big Daddy Media LLC for the 2025 volleyball season in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Licata is known for covering Texas high school volleyball statewide since 1998 and for calling over 125 Texas UIL and TAPPS semifinals and championship matches.
Licata, who also works with Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) Editor-In-Chief Butch Hart, the guru of Texas high school girls athletics, has attended every UIL state tournament since 2012.
“We’re excited to have Chuck on the team,” GM Sports Media co-founder Brian Gosset said. “Chuck’s in-depth knowledge of volleyball is incredible and among the best in the country. We look forward in what he will bring to the website and social media, and helping us grow our volleyball audience.”
Licata and Big Daddy Media was the first outlet to break the story that Lucas Lovejoy’s Gentry Barker, the No. 1 Texas recruit for the Class of 2027, is headed back to Austin (where she grew up) and will play for Brandace Boren’s Lake Travis Cavaliers’ volleyball program. Barker was the 2023 5A state title match MVP in her freshman year with Lovejoy.
Her 2025 MADFROG club team just won the USA Volleyball National Championship and Barker was named the tournament MVP.
“I’m thrilled to team up with Brian and Maddie (Cawley) to provide in-depth coverage,” Licata stated. “I’ve known Brian a long time, both as a friend and colleague. The commitment he and Maddie have for the DFW community is second to none. Their impact on the community continues to grow; I believe the DFW area has noticed how they continue to grow the site and coverage.
“Two things we’re working on as well – high school volleyball broadcasts and some additional podcasts to enhance what Brian does already with GM’s social media. We’re still working out details, and sponsorships are certainly available for those as well as the GM Sports Media volleyball preview magazine.”
Through the original K-MAC Sports broadcast network and now, through Big Daddy Media, Licata has broadcast over 250 Texas high school volleyball matches online since 2004. He’s a media veteran of 37 years and has been an anchor and/or been a part of sports broadcasts on TV (ESPN2, Fox Sports Southwest, KXAS-TV, KMOL-TV, Eleven-TV); radio (WOAI, KVET-AM, the UIL state network); and online.
Licata has won four Texas Associated Press Awards as a sportswriter and was named the 2007 Sportswriter of the Year (South Texas/Gulf Coast) by the Texas High School Basketball Coaches Association.
Additionally, he has covered and interviewed athletes for high school, college, the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, NASCAR and Women’s Professional Fastpitch Softball and has called play-by-play for volleyball, football, basketball, baseball, softball, hockey and auto racing.
Licata also works as the Broadcast Coordinator for the City of Granbury and recently won a 2023 Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers (TAMIO) award. He has been active in dog and animal rescues for the last 10 years and owns three abused rescue dogs (Maxx, Blu and Pepper).
