GIRLS SOCCER RECAP: Marcus, Carroll return to 6A regional tournament in McKinney

FM Marcus 2, Lake Highlands 0: Madi Patterson scored two goals in the first half and goalkeeper Bry Russell and the Marauders D ended the Wildcats magical playoff ride in the Class 6A Region 1 quarterfinals. The defending 6A state champs return to the regional tournament which will be held Friday at McKinney ISD Stadium. Lake Highlands had its deepest run since 2009.

Frisco Wakeland 1, Prosper Walnut Grove 0: Dilan Pistorius converted on a Finley McKnight assist and the Wakeland D shut down Walnut Grove to advance to the Class 5A Region 2 tournament on Friday at Standridge Stadium in Carrollton. It’s the Wolverines 17th shutout of the season and third in three playoff games.

Prosper 1, Hebron 0: A Reagan Roberts goal in the first half was all the Eagles needed to get past the Hawks in their Class 6A Region 1 quarterfinal game. Prosper posted its 10th shutout of the season. The Eagles are headed to their first regional tournament in Class 6A. The regional semifinals are Friday at McKinney ISD Stadium.

Southlake Carroll 6, Keller Timber Creek 1: The Dragons scored three goals in each half as the team is headed back to the regional tournament for the third straight season. SLC took a 1-0 lead in the 5th minute on a goal by Hannah Jordan. Audrey Anderson and Jordan scored, and Carroll led 3-1 at the intermission. Jordan got a hat trick in the 50th minute. Jordan assisted on a Kamdyn Fuller goal in the 52nd minute. Jordan had one more assist to Parker Wilkerson in the 70th minute. Timber Creek got its only goal in the first half from Brooke Ramsey with an assist by Natalie Singleton.

Frisco Panther Creek 3, Anna 1: The Panthers took down their District 11-4A counterparts in their Class 4A Region 2 quarterfinal game. Panther Creek is headed to its first regional tournament in just its only second season. After losing to Anna in their first district game 6-0, the Panthers won the last two matchups including this quarterfinal contest.

Celina 5, Aubrey 2: Ava Samuel scored a hat trick and the Bobcats are going to the regional tourney for the fourth straight season. Ryleigh Stifflemire added one goal and three assists. Celina is going for a three-peat after winning the past two Class 4A state championships. Celina beat Aubrey three times this season by a score of 19-2. Aubrey reached the third round in its first season of soccer.
