Fort Worth Country Day beats Trinity Valley in softball state semifinals

Country Day scored eight times in the bottom of the fourth inning to complete the run-rule, 17-1 over FW Trinity Valley in a SPC 3A state semifinal game on Friday at Greenhill HS in Addison.

The Falcons (18-4) will defend their 2023 state championship when they play in the title game at 12:30 pm on Saturday in Greenhill. They scored six runs in the top of the first inning and finished with 11 hits while the Trojans committed six errors on defense.

Katie Bruce led off the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run.

Madeline Richey went 4 for 4 with a double, triple, two singles, three RBIs and three runs scored. Emily Klein had two doubles and four RBIs. Ryleigh Hall doubled, tripled and drove in three runs.

Richey started the game in the circle didn’t allow a hit in two innings.

Klein pitched the last two innings and didn’t allow a hit while striking out four batters.

After Bruce’s home run to center, Reagan Hall walked and Richey and Klein had back-to-back doubles with Klein driving in a pair. Ryleigh Hall followed with an RBI double to make it 4-0. Country Day added two more runs on two errors to lead 6-0.

The Trojans got their one run on a passed ball in the second inning.

RIchey led off the second with a triple to center and scored on a wild pitch. Richey added an RBI single in the third and Ryleigh Hall drew a walk with the bases loaded to make the lead 9-1. After the first two batters got out in the fourth, Country Day went on to score eight times to finish off the Trojans.

Back-to-back walks from Bruce and Reagan Hall was followed by a two-run single by Richey. Klein hit a two-run double and Ryleigh Hall added an RBI triple to extend the lead to 14-1. Kyra Gibbons and Olivia Kersh added RBI singles to end the game.

Country Day defeated John Cooper in last year’s 3A championship.
