DeSoto defeats South Oak Cliff, game ends early after scuffle in stands

The Eagles and Golden Bears faced off Saturday evening in a matchup of 2022 state champs.

DeSoto was in total control throughout the entire game, but the contest was called early due to a scuffle in the stands. According to DCTF’s Matt Stepp, who was covering the game, play stopped around the six minute mark of the fourth quarter when there was an incident on the DeSoto side of the stadium. Both teams would immediately exit the field and police began to swarm Kincaide Stadium in Dallas.

“I can’t tell if there were gunshots since I’m in the pressbox, but everyone reacted like there were shots,” Stepp said on Twitter.

The officials would end the game with DeSoto on top 54-14.

DeSoto improved to 2-0. The Eagles beat Allen 39-7 in Week 1.

SOC drops to 1-2 with a win over Lancaster and loss to Duncanville.

DeSoto won the 6A D2 state title last season while SOC won its second straight title in 5A D2.

The Eagles rolled to a 47-0 halftime lead. Daylon Singleton scored on a 74-yard touchdown during the second play from scrimmage. QB and Sam Houston State commit DJ Bailey connected with Tristan Bailey to extend it to 13-0.

DJ Bailey threw 45 TDs a season ago.

Jakyree Washington (36 yards) and Jaden Trawick (5 yards) also scored as DeSoto led 26-0 with 1:52 left in the first quarter. Bailey tossed a 58-yard TD to Boobie Feaster and then added a 43-yard scoring pass to Antonio Pride and the Eagles led 40-0 midway through the second.

DeSoto had 488 yards in the first half while SOC was held to minus-16 yards.
