Frisco Panther Creek star quarterback commits to Henderson State

After leading Panther Creek to the regional semifinals in only its second season of varsity football, starting quarterback Braxton Roberts announced his commitment on Thursday to Henderson State.

Roberts is a 6-2 senior and will graduate in the spring.

The Panthers enjoyed much success in the fall and posted an 11-2 record while also winning a district title.

They went 9-1 in the regular season with their only loss coming in Week 2 against 5A D2 state semifinalist Frisco Emerson 48-31. During the 4A D1 playoffs, Panther Creek beat Kaufman and Waco La Vega before losing to eventual state champion Anna 42-38 in the final minute of the regional semifinal round.

On the season, Roberts completed 271 of 394 passes for 3,705 yards and 38 touchdowns to seven interceptions.

He also rushed for six touchdowns and was voted District 7-4A MVP.

Against Anna, Roberts was 32 of 53 for 319 yards and two touchdowns.

In 13 games, Roberts threw for 300 or more yards in six games with a season-high 453 yards in Week 1 against Frisco Independence when the Panthers won 48-7. In that game, Roberts was 28 of 32 passing and threw for five touchdowns.

The Panthers won the district title in Week 11 against Celina – beating the Bobcats 31-27.

Roberts was 27 of 37 for 324 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions.

He also threw for six touchdowns in a game against Dallas Carter.

Henderson State went 9-3 during the 2023 season before losing in the first round of the NCAA D2 playoffs against No. 6 Central Missouri. Last year’s roster featured 48 players from Texas with 19 from the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
