FORT WORTH – It took a quarter for the Lake Country girls basketball team to wake up during its home opener on Tuesday night against Dallas HSAA.
But after scoring only six points in the first eight minutes, the Eagles poured in 45 points during the final three quarters on their way to a 51-44 win over the Angels. LCCS is 1-1 on the season and is #3 in the TABC 4A Private School rankings.
Sophomore London Chandler scored 13 of her game-high 25 points in the third quarter. Junior Georgia Moore and sophomore Erika Hancock each chipped in nine points apiece and senior Campbell Young added six.
HSAA opened the contest with the first eight points before Lake Country could buy a basket. After scoring its first basket to pull within 8-2, the Angels put together another 8-2 run to take a 16-4 lead following the opening period.
But as hot as the Angels started the game, Lake Country was just as hot to start the second quarter. Chandler registered steal and Hancock finished off a possession with a bucket to pull LCCS within 16-13.
HSAA snapped the Eagles’ 9-0 run and then led 21-17 before Lake Country made another strong push. Hancock’s turnaround layup and a free throw by Young gave LCCS its first lead at 22-21 with 1:30 left in the half.
Chandler had back to back baskets and another 9-0 run had the Eagles up 26-21 at intermission. Chandler had a personal 8-0 run and the Eagles led 30-21 in the third quarter. A Chandler three from the corner gave her 15 and the lead was 34-24.
But the Angels weren’t out of it yet.
HSAA went on an 11-3 run to pull within 34-32, but two more threes from Chandler pushed LCCS in front 46-37 after the third quarter. Kiyah Biddle scored from the baseline and Moore hit a deep three as the Eagles led 51-42.
