Former DFW football coach returning to the sideline at Greenville

A familiar name in the Texas high school football coaching world returns to the sideline for the 2023 season.

Dave Campbell’s Inside Matt Stepp reported on Thursday that former Grapevine and North Forney head coach Randy Jackson will take over as interim coach and athletic director at Greenville just three weeks before the regular season is set to kick off.

Greenville is 30 minutes northeast of Rockwall.

Former coach Darren Duke announced his retirement on Tuesday and just two days later, the Lions brought on Jackson. In seven seasons, Greenville posted a 23-47 record under Duke with one playoff appearance during the 2019 season, which ended in 44-12 loss against Frisco.

The Lions went 1-6 in district and 2-8 overall last season.

Jackson, who was an assistant at Greenville in the 1990s, also had stints with Mesquite Poteet and Plano East. Jackson holds a 170-78 career coaching record.

He stopped coaching in Texas after the 2020 season and went overseas coaching in Germany. Jackson also wrote a book. The junior varsity and varsity teams will begin two-a-days on Monday Aug. 7.

The Lions will open the season hosting Lake Dallas on Friday Aug. 25.
