Former Socorro AD, Eastlake coach named new Executive Athletic Director at Fort Worth ISD

The Fort Worth school district named JJ Calderon as its next Executive Athletic Director on Tuesday, according to Dave Campbell’s Insider Matt Stepp. Calderon comes over from Socorro ISD where he was AD. Socorro is located in the El Paso area.

Calderon takes over for Todd Vesely, who held the same position for FWISD since the summer of 2018.

Calderon had been the AD for Socorro since 2019.

Prior to that, Calderon was the only head football coach at El Paso Eastlake, which started playing varsity games in 2012. According to a story by KTSM 9 News in 2019, Calderon played football at Sul Ross State in Alpine, TX and went 52-30 at Eastlake in seven seasons. Eastlake won three district titles, five bi district titles and two area titles under Calderon.

Fort Worth ISD athletics enjoyed much success under Vesely, most recently seeing Arlington Heights winning a playoff football game last year and seeing Diamond Hill Jarvis and Trimble Tech boys soccer teams going to state in back-to-back seasons.
