Brian Brazil, who helped open Hebron High School in 1999, died on Wednesday after a year long battle with cancer. He was 58.
Brazil was coach for the Hawks for 23 years until he retired in 2022.
He spent the past year as an athletic director with Plano Prestonwood.
He is survived by his wife Birdie of 33 years, his three children and two grandchildren. According to WFAA, his funeral will be on Monday from Prestonwood Baptist Church.
In April, Hebron announced the name change of its football stadium to Brian Brazil Stadium.
Brazil also spent seven years as an assistant and defensive coordinator at Lewisville High School. He led Hebron to a Class 4A D2 state championship in 2005.
The Hawks defeated Corpus Christi Calallen 28-0. It’s their only trip to the state title game. They also beat Dallas Lincoln, Terrell, Everman, Wylie and Wolfforth Frenship during their playoff run.
During his run with Hebron, the Hawks posted a 152-97 record under Brazil with 16 playoff trips.
He was inducted in the Texas HS Coaches Association Hall of Honor last year.
During his lone year with Prestonwood, athletics found much success that included state titles in volleyball, boys basketball, boys soccer and a state runner up in football.
