The Duncanville school district has finally found its next athletic director, naming Derick Roberson to lead the way on Tuesday.
Roberson previously worked at Frisco ISD.
He served as AD and head football coach at Frisco Memorial. Before that he was the football coach and campus athletic coordinator for Dallas Skyline.
At Skyline, Roberson took over for Reginald Samples, who’s now the head coach at Duncanville.
Roberson also spent time at Dallas Adams and helped the football team to a historic playoff appearance in 2008. Adams reached the playoffs in five seasons under Roberson.
Roberson graduated college from Texas Tech and Concordia University.
Samples and the Panthers completed a 15-0 season last fall with a state title in Class 6A D1, 28-21 over Galena Park North Shore.
The Panthers have gone 90-10 in the last seven seasons.
Roberson is the third different AD at Duncanville in the past year. The Panthers have been in some trouble with the UIL, including both basketball programs. Both teams were banned from postseason play in 2022-23 and both coaches were reassigned.
The UIL stripped the boys state title from 2022 due to transfer eligibility rules.
