ARLINGTON – Colleyville Covenant capped off a historic baseball season with a come-from-behind 4-2 victory over Pasadena First Baptist in the TAPPS D3 state championship game on Saturday at UT-Arlington’s Clay Gould Ballpark.

Covenant (16-10-2) won the first title in program history. The Cougars’ champ game appearance was also a first since the 2002 season.

The Cougars trailed in the top of the 1st inning on a 2-run single, but they got one back in the bottom half of the inning with a lead off solo home run from Carter Humphrey.

First Baptist continued to lead 2-1 through 4 1/2 innings until Covenant put up a 3-spot in the bottom of the 5th.

Singles by Humphrey and Jonah Williamson, and a hit by pitch to Chance Dennis loaded the bases for the Cougars. 2 batters later and the game was tied on an RBI single from Max Vogt.

Asher Hoffman drew a bases-loaded walk and Chase Humphrey scored the go-ahead run. 2 batters later and another free pass to Cam Jordan gave the Cougars a 4-2 lead.

Williamson, who went the distance for Covenant, retired 6 of the final 8 batters for the win. He allowed just 4 hits with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. Williamson also went 3 for 4 at the plate and was a part of the all-tournament selections.

Covenant opened the state baseball tournament with a 5-1 win in Friday’s semifinal round against Dallas Christian.

Humphrey threw all 7 innings with 4 hits allowed, 1 walk and 6 strikeouts. He batted 2 for 3 with 1 RBI while Dennis tripled and drove in 2. Williamson, Spencer Fortmeyer, Jordan and Dane Coley also had a hit for the Cougars.
