Carlee Rabal finished with 3 extra-base hits and Avery Pitts struck out 8 batters to lead Forney past Tomball 6-2 in Game 1 of the Class 6A D2 Region 2 champ series on Wednesday night.

Game 2 is set for Thursday night at Waco Midway.

The Jackrabbits broke open a 1-1 tie with 3 runs in the top of the 6th inning. Following a Juliana Tamburine walk to lead off the frame, Rabal drove her in with an RBI triple for the go-ahead run. Rabal scored one batter later on a single by Sophia Heredia.

Arianna Villarreal added an RBI sac fly with 1 out to give Forney a 4-1 lead. Rabal added her second RBI triple in the 7th and then scored on a sac fly from Heredia to make it 6-2.

Forney took a 1-0 lead in the 4th on an RBI double by Rabal.

Pitts allowed 4 hits with both runs unearned along with no walks and 8 strikeouts.

Forney is one win away from going to the state semifinals in back-to-back years. The Jackrabbits came up short in the 6A D2 title game last season.
