Keller takes series lead over Boswell

Keller erupted for 7 runs in the top of the fifth inning to defeat Boswell 8-5 in Game 1 of their Class 6A D2 bi-district round series on Wednesday night at Saginaw.

Game 2 is set for 6 pm Thursday back at Saginaw.

Scoreless after four, the Indians (23-10-1) got a lead-off double by Avery Lawton to open the top half of the fifth inning. Tinslee Cribbs laid down a bunt and reached on a throwing error at first, scoring Lawton. Two more errors on Boswell (22-5-1) loaded the bases for Keller and Calliee Cribbs and Tinslee Cribbs scored on a third straight miscue by the Pioneers.

Mackenna Jackson loaded the bases with a walk and Sydona Meiser hit a single to center that scored two runs and pushed Keller’s lead to 5-0. Landry Beaman singled in Jackson from third and Tinslee Cribbs singled in Meiser to grow the lead to 7-0.

6 runs came with 1 out as Keller brought 13 batters to the plate in the fifth.

Boswell cut the lead to 7-3 in the bottom of the fifth – highlighted by an RBI single from Lacey Neighbors and RBI triple from Sam Cruz. Cruz would score on a wild pitch.

Meiser, who will continue playing at Texas Tech, hit a 2-out RBI double that drove in Jackson (Kansas) to make it 8-3 in the sixth for the Indians.

Boswell sophomore Addy Watson scored 2 with an inside the park home run that cut the deficit to 8-5 in the sixth. Cruz hit a 1-out triple in the seventh before Keller’s Avery Lawton got the final two Pioneers out.

Meiser finished with 3 runs batted in while Lawton and Keller starter Calliee Cribbs combined for 7 hits allowed and 4 strikeouts. Cribbs pitched 5 innings for the Indians.

Watson started in the circle for Boswell and allowed 3 hits in 4 1/3 innings.
