Mark Chauveaux retiring after nearly three decades with Godley

Per Godley ISD

After 27 seasons leading one of the most successful programs in school history, Mark Chauveaux is retiring as Godley High School head girls basketball coach and girls athletic director.

Chauveaux concludes his career with a remarkable 664-260 record, the most wins by any coach in any sport in Godley ISD history.

Since arriving in 1999, Chauveaux built the Ladycats into a perennial contender, guiding the program to the playoffs in 26 of 27 seasons. His teams captured 15 district championships and advanced deep into the postseason year after year, highlighted by a UIL State Tournament appearance in 2017, three regional finals appearances and seven trips to the regional semifinals.

“Coach Chauveaux’s legacy goes far beyond the scoreboard,” Superintendent Dr. Rich Dear said. “For 27 years, he has led with character, integrity and loyalty, always putting students first and representing Godley ISD with pride.”

Prior to his time at Godley, Chauveaux coached at Adrian and Westbrook, bringing that experience with him as he established one of the premier girls basketball programs in Texas. He was honored for his career during the UIL State Basketball Tournament in 2024.

Chauveaux was named District Coach of the Year 12 times and Johnson County Coach of the Year 10 times. He was selected to coach the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-Star Game twice and has served on the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Dean Weese Coach of the Year selection committee.

His teams consistently competed at a high level, earning 12 bi-district championships, 14 area championships, six regional quarterfinal titles and three regional semifinal championships. The Ladycats reached the regional finals three times and advanced to the UIL State Tournament once in 2017.

Beyond wins and accolades, Chauveaux’s impact has been defined by consistency, leadership and a deep commitment to student-athletes and the Godley community. Over nearly three decades, he helped guide the program through significant district growth — from a high school of just over 250 students to one graduating more than 200 seniors each year — while remaining a steady presence through multiple campus transitions and leadership changes.

“He has been a constant through decades of growth and change, fiercely competitive while staying true to his values,” Dear said. “Simply put, no coach in the history of our district has had a greater impact on wins, on athletes and on our community than Coach Chauveaux. We are incredibly grateful for everything he has given to Godley ISD.”

While his coaching résumé is among the best in Texas high school basketball, Chauveaux is equally respected for the relationships he built and the culture he established within the Ladycats program.
