Bella Flores makes first start of the season for Flower Mound
In her first start of the season, sophomore Bella Flores pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts as Flower Mound hung on to beat Hebron 7-6 on Tuesday night in District 5-6A.
Flores returned on Saturday in relief duty during the Jaguars’ win over Coppell as she missed time due to an injury. She led the rotation last season as Flower Mound reached the state semifinals and was one win away from the championship game.
The Jags (16-7-1, 6-1) scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning highlighted by Flores’ first appearance at the plate. Seeing her first pitch batting all season, Flores drilled a ball to deep center for a grand slam and 5-0 lead.
Avery Brock added an RBI in the second to give Flower Mound a 6-0 lead. Hebron (15-7, 5-2) rallied with two runs in the third and two in the fifth.
Flores drove in a run in the fifth to push the Jags’ lead to 7-4.
The Hawks pulled within 7-6 with one out in the top of the seventh with runners on the corners. Flores got the strikeout and a grounder to end the game.
Melissa homers its way vs Walnut Grove
Seven runs in the third inning and four home runs sent Melissa past Prosper Walnut Grove 13-5 on Tuesday night in District 9-5A.
Melissa is 20-2 overall and and 7-0 in district.
Walnut Grove falls to 13-10-1 and 4-3.
Shug Bradford hit a solo home run in the second inning with Finlee Williams hitting one in the third. The Cardinals also got RBI singles in the third inning from Bradford, Hattie Winter and Ana Gonzales.
Gonzales and Rihanna Wheeler homered in the fifth to push the Melissa lead to 10-0. Lulu Adrian tripled in a run in the seventh that extended the margin to 13-2.
Lauren Robinson had two RBIs for the Wildcats
Richland shuts out Colleyville Heritage
Stacy Jennings tossed a five-hit shutout and struck out eight batters as Richland beat Colleyville Heritage 5-0 on Tuesday night in District 6-5A.
The Royals (23-2, 6-0) led 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning when Kennedy Parry hit an RBI single to center. Lauryn Gamez added an RBI double on an 0-1 pitch.
Parry also hit a two-run home run in the fifth.
Burleson hangs on over Joshua
Three runs in the fourth inning sparked Burleon’s 4-3 win over Joshua on Tuesday night in District 8-5A as the Elks grabbed sole possession of second place in the standings.
Joshua (19-5, 5-2) led 1-0 in the top of the second inning on a solo home run by Evelyn Tate. Burleson (16-5, 6-1) tied it in the third on an RBI from Addy Sellers, who leads the metroplex with her 64th RBI of the season.
The Elks’ fourth inning featured RBIs by Savannah Skaggs, Tessa Goodwin and Lanie Bedwell to go up 4-1. Leading 4-3, Skaggs retired six of the final seven batters with one hit allowed and two strikeouts.
Centennial still perfect in district play
Trailing 3-2 entering the sixth inning, Burleson Centennial scored six times in the final three frames to hang on and beat Mansfield Timberview 7-5 on Tuesday night in District 8-5A.
Centennial stays undefeated in district at 7-0 and 19-6-1 overall.
Lexie Arthur homered in the top of the sixth inning for the Spartans that tied the game at 3-3. Kendall Cottongame added an RBI single to center that pushed Centennial to a 4-3 lead. Brooke Mayner hit a two-run home run in the seventh that extended the lead to 6-3.
Timberview scored two in the bottom of the seventh to pull within 7-5. The Wolves had the game-tying run at the plate when Ava Ellis got a grounder for the third out.
Birdville wins pitcher’s duel vs Argyle
Reagan Jordan threw a two-hit shutout as Birdville beat Argyle 1-0 in District 6-5A on Tuesday night.
Jordan issued two walks and struck out 11 for the Hawks (10-10-1, 5-1). Presley Hawkesworth was the hard luck loser for Argyle (10-14, 4-2) with one run across four hits and five strikeouts.
Hannah Azuelo hit a home run with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Eagles had two runners in scoring position in the second inning before Jordan shut down back-to-back batters with her fifth and sixth strikeouts of the game.
Jordan retired the final 10 batters in order.
Boyd blanks Paradise
Abby Atkinson had a big night with a two-run home run and three RBIs, plus a no-hitter from the rubber during Boyd’s 4-0 win over Paradise in District 10-3A.
Boyd improves to 22-2 overall and 6-0 in district.
Paradise falls to 17-4-1 and 4-2.
Atkinson homered in the bottom of the first inning to give the Yellowjackets a 2-0 lead. She added an RBI single in the third while Savannah Davis scored on an error in the fourth.
Atkinson finished with a complete game, no hits, three walks and 16 strikeouts.
Southwest Christian beats Country Day
With one out in the bottom of the sixth inning, Rachel Swenson broke a 2-2 tie with an RBI double to center and was followed by Eva Anderson’s RBI single as the Fort Worth Southwest Christian beat Fort Worth Country Day 4-2 in a non-district game on Tuesday night.
Country Day got two runners to reach in the top of the seventh and had the go-head run at the plate, but Lara Langford got a strikeout and grounder to second.
Both teams scored in the third.
Ryleigh Hall reached on an error and a runner scored to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. Langford walked and later scored to tie the game for the Eagles.
Taylor Higgins doubled in the tying run in the top of the fifth for the Falcons. Maddie Richey allowed one earned run on five hits and struck out 15.
Langford allowed four hits and struck out 11 – going over 250 strikeouts in her career.
