Freshman Sydni Gaylor capped off a stellar debut season for Lipan with 23 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block to lead the Indians past defending champ Martin’s Mill 42-35 in the Class 2A D2 championship game on Thursday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
Gaylor was voted state champ MVP as Lipan ends the season 35-5.
The Indians secured their fourth title in their 12th appearance at state. Lipan also won championships in 2016, 2021 and 2023. Martin’s Mill (30-6) was going for three-straight titles with the 2A D2 trophy in 2025 and the 2A crown in 2024.

Skylar Harrison and Kynzi Callaway both scored seven points for Lipan.
Callaway led all players with 11 rebounds.
Harrison hit a layup to give Lipan an 8-7 lead with 2:40 left in the first quarter. Martin’s Mill tied it at 14-14 at the 2:11 mark of the second quarter. The Indians scored 10 of the final 13 points to take a 24-18 lead into the intermission.
Gaylor hit a three-pointer to give Lipan a 17-15 lead. Gaylor then hit a putback layup and Callaway nailed a three-pointer with three seconds left in the half.
Gaylor scored all six points in the third and Lipan held Martin’s Mill to only two free throws in the period. The Indians took a 10-point lead into the final stanza.
Martin’s Mill got within five twice in the final minute before Lipan closed it out. The Indians won the rebound battle 42-29 (16-9 offensive) and had 22 points in the paint versus 12 for Martin’s Mill.
**#1 Panhandle won the 2A D1 title over #2 Mason, 38-25 on Thursday. Panhandle wins its first state championship since 2017 and ends with a 37-2 record. Mason was denied its first title and wraps up a 40-2 campaign. Riley Segura led the way with 19 points on 7 of 16 shooting, eight rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals. Panhandle won 37 straight games.
