Sophomore pitcher Kyndall Jones toss six-shutout innings, allowed six hits and struck out 11 batters as Weatherford took down Thrall 2-0 on Friday at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in College Station.
It was the first win of the season for the Kangaroos.
It was also the first career win for head coach Jessica Pauls, who’s in her first year with the program. Pauls came over in the off-season after spending the previous five seasons with her alma mater – the Keller Indians.
Cassara Perdue doubled in a run during the third inning.
Mia Coleman tagged up and scored on an RBI sac fly in the fifth by Londyn Martin.
The Kangaroos also beat Coppell 6-3 on Friday sparked by four runs in the top of the third inning. Freshman pitcher MicKenna Adkins allowed five hits and struck out eight. Weatherford led 1-0 on an RBI double from Martin.
Perdue hit a two-run homer in the third and Martin added a two-run double in the inning to give the team a 5-0 lead. Coppell pulled within 5-3 before Cheridan Rowell added an RBI double int he fifth for the Roos.
Pauls spent the past five seasons with Keller under head coaches Christina Gwyn and Chad Cribbs. The Indians went to the regional finals in 2023 and 2024, and won four straight district titles. During her five years with Keller, the Indians produced a 132-53-3 overall record and 60-6 in district.
She also was an assistant at Nolan Catholic in Fort Worth. Pauls played at Keller and graduated in 2011 before playing in college at the University of Science & Arts in Oklahoma.
