For the second year in a row, the Byron Nelson volleyball team finished the season as MaxPreps National Champions. The Bobcats have won 78 straight matches and went 42-0 in the fall capped with their second straight title and third overall.
Byron Nelson defeated Pearland Dawson 3-0 and became the 20th volleyball team to go perfect in UIL history.
MaxPreps presented coach Brianne Groth and the Bobcats with their national champion banner. They also recognized junior setter Sophee Peterson, who was MaxPreps Junior Player Of The Year and MaxPreps National Player Of The Year.
MaxPreps has been recognizing volleyball national champions since 2009. Byron Nelson joined Papillion-LaVista South (Papillion, Neb.) as the only schools to earn back-to-back championships.
