Texas A&M capped off a historic volleyball season with a 26-24, 25-15, 25-20 sweep over Kentucky on Sunday for its first national championship in program history.
Denton Guyer’s Kyndal Stowers, who led A&M to monumental wins over Pitt and Nebraska, had 10 kills on a 0.304 hitting percentage, and was voted Most Outstanding Player in the NCAA tournament.
The Aggies end the season 29-4 including 14-1 in the SEC.
Other DFW players with A&M: Emily Hellmuth, Highland Park; Ifenna Cos-Okpalla, Flower Mound Marcus; Lexi Guinn, Frisco; and Taryn Morris, Braswell.
Cos-Okpalla joined Stowers on the all-tournament team along with Aggie teammates Logan Lednicky and Ava Underwood. Cos-Okpalla added eight kills against Kentucky.
The Aggies beat Campbell, TCU, Louisville, Nebraska, Pitt and Kentucky in the tournament. Nebraska was #1 overall followed by Pitt (1-seed, #4 overall) and Kentucky (1-seed, #2 overall).
They became the ninth team in 45 years to sweep both final four matches.
