Denton Guyer’s Kyndal Stowers leads A&M past Pitt in national semifinals

Texas A&M is headed to its first national championship match after taking down Pitt in straight sets 29-27, 25-21, 25-20 on Thursday night in the final four.

The Aggies (28-4) will play fellow SEC school Kentucky in the champ game on Sunday.

Outside hitter Kyndal Stowers, who starred at Denton Guyer HS, had a team-high 16 kills on a 0.433 clip, one aces, two blocks and six digs. The sophomore came out of high school among the top players in the country and #1 in Texas. She was a District MVP and led the Wildcats to multiple long playoff runs – finishing her career with over 1,300 kills.

On the season, Stowers has 375 kills and 242 digs.

A&M handed Pitt its first sweep since October 2024 and became the first team in two years to sweep a national semifinal. The Aggies now have taken down two No. 1 seeds after beating overall #1 Nebraska 3-2 in the round before.

Kentucky beat Wisconsin in its semifinal match. The Wildcats faced A&M one time this season, winning 3-1 on Oct. 8.

Other DFW players with A&M: Emily Hellmuth, Highland Park; Ifenna Cos-Okpalla, Flower Mound Marcus; Lexi Guinn, Frisco; and Taryn Morris, Braswell.

Cos-Okpalla and Hellmuth both had eight kills vs. Pitt.

Cos-Okpalla also had five total blocks.
