Just when you started to get used to your favorite team’s district, here it comes again – UIL realignment. The 2026-2028 realignment will be announced in February, however, the UIL announced on Tuesday the cutoff numbers so at least you have an idea if your school is 6A, 5A, 4A….
Class 6A dropped roughly 60 kids from the current alignment as several notable teams will be making the move up. The low end in Class 6A will be 2,215 while UIL sent out new snapshot enrollment numbers from every school in the state last week.
One of the biggest moves will come from the Aledo Bearcats – who will be a 6A school for the first time when they turned in a snapshot number of 2,404 – increasing by 137 from the current enrollment. The most sense when it comes to a new district will be with 2024 6A D1 champ North Crowley – but if you follow UIL realignment day, you know there’s always twists and turns.
Aledo volleyball and softball teams have always been a contender to reached the state semifinals while the baseball team won the 5A D1 state title earlier this year.
Some teams that were on the fence during snapshot day- Arlington Bowie, Granbury and Frisco Wakeland – will all be 6A. Bowie is already a 6A team with football winning the 8-6A district title this season. Granbury and Wakeland will be 6A for the first time. Wakeland’s football team won its most games in a season all-time after going 11-2 and reaching the regional semifinals.
Another notable move came from Prosper Walnut Grove – which is in only its third year yet is moving up to 6A – and it’s not even close as the Wildcats turned in 2476 – an increase of 760 kids. Its football, volleyball and softball teams have quickly become one of DFW’s best as football started this season 12-0. The volleyball team also had much success and posted a 32-9 record.
