FORT WORTH – Brock sophomore Levi Dean opened the game with a 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and the Eagles scored the last 27 points as they defeated Eagle Mountain 41-13 in their District 3-4A Division 2 opener on Friday night at EMHS.
The Eagles, ranked #3 in the 4A D2 state rankings, move to 6-0 overall while the Knights fell to 4-2. Their other loss came against Grandview in Week 2.
This is Eagle Mountain’s second season.
Brock QB Holt Frazier tossed three touchdowns to up his season total to 24.
Bryer McDonald rushed for two scores in the second half.
Brock couldn’t have had a better start – well maybe if the Eagles returned a fumble for a touchdown on the ensuing kickoff. But after Dean’s score, the Knights fumbled on their kickoff and Brock’s Logan Gordon recovered.
However, the Eagles couldn’t turn it into points as they missed a 34-yard field goal try.
Frazier threw his first touchdown pass of the game – an 80-yarder to Charles Hibbler on what appeared to be a blown coverage on the Knights. Brock led 14-0 with 6:56 left in the first quarter.
But the Knights rallied and pulled within a single point.
On fourth-and-2 and in punt formation, the Knights ran a fake for Mamoud Hussein, who picked up 36 yards to the Brock 30. QB Brycen Vindiola hit RB Terry Starks, who got to the 1. Starks punched it in to make it 14-7 with 4:04 on the clock.
The Knights got the ball back and scored again two minutes later. WR Jaxon Trammell made a double move and caught a 61-yard TD from Vindiola to pull within 14-13, however the extra point was blocked.
Frazier connected with Davis Lee midway through the second quarter and Brock led 21-13. Then Frazier hit freshman Casen Christenson and the Eagles were up 28-13 at the intermission.
Brock forced a punt on Eagle Mountain’s first drive of the third quarter. Frazier picked a first down into the red zone and McDonald scored to make it 35-13 with 4:49 left in the period. The Eagles had another chance to score, but Eagle Mountain had great coverage on third and fourth down. Hussein and Kathen Middleton had pass break ups to help the Knights get the ball back on downs.
On the first play of the fourth quarter, McDonald rumbled in for his second touchdown for the final score of the night.
Brock returns home to host Mineral Wells in Week 8 while Eagle Mountain will host Burkburnett.
