Azle grad Eric McAlister was named Big 12 Offensive Player Of The Week and National Offensive Player Of The Week after a career game during TCU’s win over SMU on Saturday Sept. 20.

McAlister caught eight passes and set career highs with 254 yards receiving and three touchdowns. TCU beat SMU 35-24 at home – winning the Iron Skillet during the 104th meeting. It’s uncertain if this will be the final game between the two DFW schools as it’s the last contest for the unseeable future.

Josh Hoover, a fellow metroplex grad, threw a career-high five TDs for the Horned Frogs. The former Rockwall-Heath star threw for 379 yards on 22 of 40 passes.

A 27-yard TD from Hoover to McAlister set up TCU with a 7-0 lead with 4:23 left in the first quarter. SMU hit a field goal late in the period after 12 plays and 68 yards.

The Mustangs took a 24-21 lead early in the fourth on two touchdowns from South Oak Cliff grad Kevin Jennings – a 7-yard TD to Yamir Knight and a 34-yard TD to Jordan Hudson.

Less than 90 seconds later Hoover and McAlister connected for a 70-yard touchdown score to give the Frogs a 28-24 edge. The duo scored again from 44 yards midway through the final frame.

McAlister was an all-state player at Azle before spending three years at Boise State. While at Azle, McAlister had 70 catches for 1,498 yards and 20 touchdowns during his senior. year.
