Arlington ISD will open its doors to its third high school stadium on Thursday when Arlington Seguin takes on The Colony.
Glaspie Field is the latest high school stadium for the Arlington school district – on the campus of Arlington Martin High School. The other two are Cravens Field at Lamar and Wilemon Field at Sam Houston. Arlington football teams have also play at Choctaw Stadium and UTA Maverick Stadium this season.
Officially Michael Glaspie Field Athletic Complex, the bond on the project was passed six years ago. It will serve as the home field for Martin and Seguin High Schools.
The stadium will hold about 10,000 seats and a larger press box compared to Cravens and Wilemon. The capacity at the old field at Martin only held 1,500.
“We are very excited about Glaspie Stadium,” said AISD Athletic Director Eric White last year. “We realize the work has been going on for a while, but it comes alive when the work is above ground. When you can see the buildings, press box and bleachers taking shape it becomes tangible and creates more energy about playing there.”
Martin will play there on Friday night against Grand Prairie.
