Riley McNemar hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the seventh as the North Texas Mean Green erased a 5-0 deficit to upset #13 Texas Tech at home on Wednesday night.

UNT is 13-2 overall and owns an 8-game winning streak.

Tech drops to 15-4.

The Red Raiders scored four runs in the top of the second on a fielder’s choice, throwing error, wild pitch, RBI single – plus a solo home run by Hailey Toney. They added to the lead in the sixth with an RBI single to center from Lauren Allred.

All-American pitcher Nijaree Canady, who transferred to Tech following a stellar run at Stanford, allowed three hits with six strikeouts in four innings of work. Tech turned to Chloe Riassetto, who allowed one hit in two innings.

However in the seventh inning, three Red Raider pitchers couldn’t record an out while giving up six runs on three hits and two walks.

Kailyn Bearpaw led off with a four-pitch walk and Prosper’s Elizabeth Moffitt walked after a full count. Ausha Moore doubled to left center that drove in both runs and cut it to 5-2. Madison Conley followed with a single and after a fielder’s choice, UNT had the bases loaded.

McNemar, who’s from Galena, KS, drove a 1-0 pitch to deep left that just went over the wall inside the left field foul pole. McNemar transferred to UNT from Auburn.

Aledo’s Kayleigh Smith came in to pitch in the top of the seventh for the Mean Green and was credited with her first career win. She got Canady to ground out to third that led off the inning.
