GARLAND – The Wolverines came to play when it mattered most – beating 10-time champ Lovejoy in the regional final and then District 6-5A champ Argyle in the semifinals. Frisco Wakeland capped off its historic season with another impressive win – sweeping Cedar Park 25-20, 25-19, 25-23 in the Class 5A Division 2 state championship on Saturday at the Culwell Center.

While Cedar Park (34-16) was denied its first state title, Wakeland (35-7) won its first in its first trip to state. Not only did the Wolverines make history at the school, they did so for Frisco ISD – becoming the first from the school district to win a volleyball title. Frisco Reedy was the only other FISD team to earn a state berth during the 2022 season.

Junior attacker and LSU commit Hannah Lee was voted state champ MVP with a team-high 15 kills on 0.314 hitting, one dig and two block assists. West Virginia bound 6-2 rotation setter Sarah Pfiffner chipped in 24 assists, nine digs and four kills. Emerson Jones was second on the team with 10 kills and Jaleah Bauss, Aubree Fernandez and Bella Wood added 10 assists, 17 digs and seven kills, respectively. Breanna Cagle tied Pfiffner for second most digs on the team with nine.
