Lewisville came into the season having gone 0-14 in district play each of the past four years. But things started to turn around – slowly but surely. After winning one game all season in 2020, the Farmers won 12, 13 and 10 games overall from 2021 to 2023.

Head coach Cara Sumpter and her team took another big leap in 2024 capped Friday night with a sweep at Denton Guyer to clinch their first playoff berth in 27 years. After a rough opening set, the Farmers rallied to beat the Wildcats 15-25, 25-21, 25-22, 26-24.

They improved to 20-18 overall and 6-7 in District 5-6A.

It’s their most wins overall since the 2007 season.

Sumpter said that it’s just the third playoff appearance in program history since 1983.

Lewisvlle will finish the regular season at Little Elm next Tuesday. The Farmers have locked up the No. 2 seed in the Division 1 bracket. Coppell will be the 1-seed. The bi-district round isn’t set just yet. Plano East (13-2 in 6-6A) and Allen (12-3) are also in D1. Those two teams will play in the finale to set up the final playoff seeding.
