Midlothian mounts incredible fourth quarter comeback to stun Burleson Centennial

Things looked bleak as Midlothian trailed Burleson Centennial 26-9 after the third quarter. But the Panthers mounted an amazing comeback in the final quarter to stun the Spartans on their home turf, 37-33 in District 7-5A D1 on Friday night at Burleson ISD Stadium.

Midlothian improves to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in district.

Centennial drops to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in district.

The Spartans went up 26-9 when Jacob Torres found tight end Dane Burnett for the touchdown with 2:23 left in the third quarter. But the Panthers outscored the Spartans 28-7 in the final 12 minutes.

Beau Wendel found Brendyn Jackson and Kentorion King punched in the two-point conversion to cut the deficit to 26-17 just eight seconds in the final period. WR Damien Long scored on a long touchdown catch less than a minute later and Centennial went back up 33-17.

Midlothian got back within 10 at 33-23 with 8:22 left to play on Michael Archie’s TD run. The Panthers then got the ball back with they stopped a fourth-and-1 try midway through the fourth. They responded when Archie scored to cut it to 33-30 with 6:09 left.

Both teams didn’t score for the next six minutes until Wendel and Jackson connected inside the red zone to give Midlothian its first and only lead at 37-33 with 13 seconds to play in the game.

Midlothian will host Tyler at MISD Stadium in Week 9.

Centennial travels to Tyler in Week 8.
