Richardson’s Cason Wallace and Denton Guyer’s Tristan Bridges are the latest DFW college athletes of the week.
Wallace recently declared for the NBA draft after one season with the Kentucky basketball team.
As a freshman, Wallace was named to the All-SEC freshman team. He ranked second in the conference in assists per game and fourth in steals. He had eight steals in a game against Michigan State, which tied for the most in a single game in program history.
Wallace averaged 11.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2 steals in 32 games. The Wildcats went 22-12 and 12-6 in the SEC before losing in the second round of the NCAA tournament to Kansas State.
Wallace is a projected lottery pick according to ESPN.
During his time at Richardson HS, Wallace was among the top players in the state. A 5-star guard, Wallace was ranked as high as No. 7 in the country. He averaged nearly 20 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists as a senior, helping the Eagles to the state semifinals.
He was district MVP, Gatorade Texas Player of the Year and a McDonald’s All-American.
Bridges, a senior pitcher for the Tarleton State softball team, threw the 10th no-hitter in program history and second of the season during a 2-0 win over California Baptist on Friday. Bridges let her defense make plays as she didn’t record a strikeout, but did induce 15 pop flies and six ground outs.
Cal Baptist only had three batters reach base, two on hit by pitch and one Tarleton State error.
Bridges played for one season and graduated from Guyer, but starred for three years at Krum where she lettered every year and helped the team to the 2017 Class 4A state championship. That season, Krum finished 37-4 and Bridges was named state tournament MVP.
On the season, Bridges has six wins in 20 appearances with nine complete games. She has 60 strikeouts in 84 innings pitched. This is Bridges’ fifth season with the Texans and has 41 career wins and 380 strikeouts in 116 games.
Tarleton State is 20-19 overall and 4-5 in conference. The Texans will travel to North Texas on Tuesday at 6 pm.
