The Eagles weren’t fazed on the biggest stage in their first state tournament girls soccer game on Friday. Prosper netted three goals and the defense was phenomenal in its 3-0 win over Seven Lakes in the Class 6A state semifinals at Birkelbach Field in Georgetown.
Prosper (25-2-2) will face Austin Westlake (17-4-2) in the 6A final at 4 pm on Saturday. Westlake scored in the 71st minute to knock out Rockwall in the first 6A semifinal on Friday.
Rockwall ends the season 21-4-2 with its second state trip in three seasons.
Seven Lakes couldn’t get any offense all game as Prosper dominated. The Eagles out shot SL 14-2 with 7-1 shots on goal and 7-3 in corner attempts. Goalkeeper Maggie Manning (Houston signee) played all 80 minutes, but didn’t need to record a single save. Brooklyn Miller got off six shots, four on goal and two goals scored. Reagan Roberts had three shot attempts and one goal.
Prosper took a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute.
Ava Germany raced a defender to the ball and crossed it to the top of the box where Miller scored on a header to the left post from 10 yards away. The only two shots for the Spartans came in the first half at the 21st minute that went high and 29th minute that resulted in a team save for the Eagles.
Roberts got a shot off in the final seconds of the first half that was high and Prosper led 1-0 at halftime. The Eagles continued to pressure the Spartans defense with two shots and two corners in the first 10 minutes of the second half.
After three more shots, Prosper finally found the back of the net in the 61st minute when Roberts drilled a goal from 30 yards out to the far post. The Eagles put on the finishing touches with a third goal in the 74th minute. Isabella Fregoso hit a corner and Miller had a header that bounced off the top post. Miller put in the rebound for the 3-nil margin.
Prosper is making its first state appearance after winning both games at the Region 1 tournament via shootout. The Eagles knocked off #1 and 2022 state champ Southlake Carroll after seven rounds in PKs during the regional semifinals. Then they knocked off defending state champ FM Marcus in the regional championship 4-2 in PKs.
