The Marauders continue their magical playoff in hopes to secure back-to-back state titles. Marcus won the Class 6A championship last season, but struggled at times in a very competitive District 6-6A. The team clinched the final playoff spot in the last regular season game. Four wins later and the Marauders are playing in the Class 6A Region 1 final on Saturday. After a scoreless first half, super sophomore Madi Patterson scored in the 51st minute to help Marcus to a 1-nil victory in the regional semis in McKinney. Marcus will face Prosper for the right to go to state at 10 am on Saturday at McKinney ISD Stadium. Prosper beat Southlake Carroll in a shootout in the early game on Friday. Patterson was able to fend off a defender to the ball and poked it past the Frenship goalkeeper who was coming up on the play just in the box. Marcus keeper Bry Russell was credited with the shutout. It was Frenship’s only loss of the year (18-1-5).

The Sandies had no answer for the Heritage Panthers as they rolled in their Class 5A Region 1 semifinal on Friday at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls. CHHS will face Wichita Falls Rider, District 5-5A champ, in the regional championship at 10 am Saturday from Memorial Stadium. Rider, which edged out Lubbock Coronado 1-0 on Friday, previously eliminated three DFW teams to get to regionals (FW North Side, Burleson Centennial, Joshua). A win for CHHS on Saturday will clinch the program’s first state appearance – which is next week in Georgetown. Addison Shimmick registered the hat trick (3 goals) while Allie Love and Olivia Belcher both had two assists. Love, Kyra Dolgin and Ashlyn Bringedahl scored the other three goals for the Panthers.
