After reaching state semis, Prosper volleyball has a new head coach

On Tuesday, Prosper principal Nick Jones announced on Twitter/X that the volleyball team had a new coach – Gunter’s Toree Winchell. She replaces Ashlee McCormick, who recently stepped away from the program to spend more time with family – according to a source.

McCormick spent just one season with Prosper, but it was one of the best seasons in program history as the Eagles reached the Class 6A state semifinals. The Eagles lost a nail-biter to state champ Spring Grand Oaks in five sets and finished with a 37-10 record.

McCormick was named GM Sports/Big Daddy Media All-Area Coach of the Year. One of her seniors – Ayden Ames was player of the year across multiple media outlets and Gatorade National POTY. She is currently at Texas.

With Winchell, there is no drop off when it comes to state appearances. In her only season with the Gunter Tigers, she took them to the Class 3A state championship match where they lost to Bushland in four sets.

Prior to Gunter, she spent two years at Wolfforth Frenship.

Winchell also coached at Frisco Reedy and her alma mater Dalhart. She will inherit a Prosper team that will need to fill some big shoes including Ames, All-Area Blocker Sydney Thornton and star outside Reese Renfrow. According to their roster, the Eagles do have 14 players that won’t graduate this year. Some key players include Jayla Jackson, Hannah Beauford and Sophie Bridges.
