Azle grad Tyler Ulrich died on Thursday from critical injuries he suffered during a recent college football game with Southern Nazarene, which was first reported by WFAA.
Ulrich was a sophomore safety with SNU, which played Ouachita Baptist on Saturday Oct. 10. In that game, Ulrich made three tackles. On the season, he had 39 tackles in six games, including 20 vs Southern Arkansas on Sept. 12.
In a statement to WFAA from SNU on Saturday the university stated, “during an away football game, one of our student athletes suffered a traumatic injury and is in critical condition.”
Ulrich graduated from Azle in 2024 with his last football season coming in 2023. In 10 games that season, Ulrich scored one touchdown on offense while finishing with 83 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions and two forced fumbles.
According to one Facebook post:
On behalf of the Ulrich Family with shattered hearts and faith in God’s eternal promises, we share that our beloved Tyler has been called home to Heaven.
At just 21 years old, Tyler was so much more than a football player. He was a beloved son, a cherished friend, a devoted teammate, and above all, a young man who loved the Lord.
Raised in a home filled with love and faith, Tyler grew into the kind of young man every parent prays their child will become. His family poured their hearts into him, and the life he lived was a beautiful reflection of that love. He made them proud not only by what he accomplished on the field, but by the person he was off of it.
We prayed for a miracle. We prayed for healing. We prayed for more time. And while our hearts may never understand God’s plan, we find comfort in knowing that Tyler is now completely healed, resting in the arms of Jesus.
His time here was far too short, but his legacy, his faith, and the love he gave will live on forever.
Forever 21. Forever loved. Forever remembered. ![]()
