Madison Mettille singled up the middle for the walk-off win as Guyer beat Byron Nelson 1-0 in Game 1 of the Class 6A D2 Region 1 champ series on Wednesday night.
Game 2 is Thursday at Byron Nelson.
Annaleeia Martinez started off the bottom of the 7th inning getting to first on a hit by pitch. Following the first out, Isla Arel reached on a Byron error to give Guyer runners on the corner.
One batter later and Mettille hit an 0-1 pitch to center and Martinez scored the walk-off run.
The Wildcats are one win away from clinching a spot in the state semifinals for the 4th straight season.
It was pitcher’s duel between Guyer senior Notre Dame signee Finley Montgomery and Byron Nelson sophomore Meredith Hambric.
Hambric allowed just 3 hits with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts.
Montgomery, who improved to 7-0 this postseason, tossed a no-hitter with 1 walk and 13 strikeouts. She issued her only base runner to lead off the top of the 3rd and then retired the next 15 Bobcats.
