Liberty clinches playoff berth
Addison Hanson allowed 1 earned run across 5 innings while striking out 10 batters to lead Frisco Liberty by Frisco Memorial and into the playoffs 3-2 on Tuesday night in District 11-5A.
The Redhawks improved to 9-4 in the district standings – sitting in third place behind Frisco Emerson and Frisco High School.
Memorial dropped to 6-7 and still has a chance to clinch the final spot on Friday night against Frisco.
Liberty opened the scoring with 3 runs in the top of the third inning – highlighted by a 2-run double to right field by Sam Byrnes and RBI double from Hanson.
Caiden Coleman led off the Memorial seventh inning with a triple to left and scored one batter later on a single to center by Haven Parr. The Warriors had the game-winning run on first base when Hanson got the next 3 batters out.
Grandview rolls by Rice led by Tarleton State commit
Tarleton State commit KJ Hubbard had a big night to lead Grandview past Rice 14-0 in a District 18-3A game on Monday night.
Hubbard hit a grand slam in the top of the fourth inning that extended the Zebras’ lead to 10-0. Taryn Jackson added a 2-run single in the frame to push the Grandview lead to 12-0.
Hubbard finished with 6 RBIs and a pair of hits. SJ Mann (ACU) went 3 for 4 with 1 triple and 2 RBIs. Kenna Collins added an RBI single in the first inning and a 1-out triple in the fifth.
Hubbard pitched all 5 innings and allowed 4 hits with 7 strikeouts.
Grandview is 25-2-1 overall, 9-0 in district and won its 63rd straight district game.
Legacy hangs on to beat Lake Ridge
Shayla Gonzalez broke open a 1-1 tie with a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning and Mansfield Legacy hung on to beat Mansfield Lake Ridge 4-3 in a District 3-6A showdown on Tuesday night.
Legacy jumps up to 10-2 in the district standings with its district schedule completed. Lake Ridge falls into a tie for second at 9-2 alongside Boswell, which beat Weatherford on Tuesday night.
Gonzalez’s RBI single gave the Broncos a 1-0 lead in the third.
The Eagles tied it in the fourth with a solo home run by Zoey Pratt.
Kaylyn Marstaller drew a 1-out walk in the Legacy seventh followed by a single from Caldwell. With 2 outs, Gonzalez drove a pitch to deep center to give Legacy a 4-1 lead.
Lake Ridge got back-to-back 2-out singles in the bottom of the seventh followed by a 2-run double from North Carolina State commit Ryan Roberts. Julia Harper (North Carolina) was intentionally walked – becoming the game-winning run at first base before Gonzalez got a ground out to shortstop LSU commit Lillie Gaudio.
Byron Nelson sets record
Meredith Hambric tossed a 3-hitter and struck out 15 to lead Byron Nelson past LD Bell 6-0 in a District 4-6A game on Tuesday night.
The Bobcats picked up their 29th win of the season – setting a new single season record. Byron Nelson is 29-3-1 overall and clinched at least a share of the district title at 13-2.
Additionally, head coach Dani Hadnot recorded her 100th career win.
Kaylee Vien’s RBI single started the scoring in the first inning. She added an RBI sacrifice fly to right in the fourth that made it 2-0.
Elle Dearing added RBI singles in the sixth and seventh innings. Gabby Cuellar hit an RBI triple to drive in McKenna Cleary in the seventh that extended the lead to 5-0.
Boyd rallies to clinch district title
Down 4-1, Boyd erupted for 5 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to go on and beat Ponder 10-4 to claim a district title in 10-3A on Monday night.
The Yellowjackets improved to 11-0 in district and 27-2 overall – winning their 22nd straight game.
Ponder took a 4-1 lead in the third inning on 2-run singles by Kami Thorson and Skylar Kysiak.
Bella Tipton hit a 2-out double to center that drove in 2 runs and gave Boyd a 5-4 lead. Tipton scored to make it 6-4 on an RBI double from Stanford commit Abby Atkinson, who pitched the win and picked up 9 strikeouts.
RBI doubles from Savannah Davis and Gabby Salas in the fifth extended Boyd’s lead to 9-4.
FWC edges out SCS
Freshman pitcher Gabby Bright allowed 2 hits and struck out 12 as Fort Worth Christian beat out FW Southwest Christian 3-2 in a TAPPS Division 2 District 1 game on Tuesday night.
Both teams moved to 4-3 in district play.
Bright’s counterpart, Eagles’ pitcher Lara Langford gave her team the lead in the top of the first inning with a 2-run home run to deep center field.
FWC cut it to 2-1 in the first on an RBI double from Landry Lehner.
The Cardinals had back-to-back walks to start off the bottom of the fourth with both runners advancing on a sacrifice bunt by Addison Tischer. Lehner scored from third on a passed ball that tied the game 2-2.
The Cardinals took a 3-2 lead in the fifth on a 2-out error by the Eagles.
Langford pitched 6 innings for SCS and allowed 2 earned runs on 5 hits with 7 strikeouts.
Richey records no-hitter for Country Day
Boston College commit Maddie Richey continued her brilliance from the circle with a no-hitter during FW Country Day’s 10-0 win over Dallas Hockaday in a SPC North game on Tuesday night.
Ryleigh Hall (SFA) led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a walk and scored two batters later on a double from Martha Linker that made it 10-0 and ended the contest.
Richey allowed 1 walk and struck out 15 through 6 innings.
The Falcons (8-2-1, 2-0) scored 6 times in the third inning highlighted by RBI singles by Taylor Higgins, Gracie Fuller and Roeser Thomas.
Springtown takes down Decatur
Springtown pulled away with 5 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to beat Decatur 11-5 in District 7-4A on Monday night.
Kylee Spray got the win with the complete game and 11 strikeouts.
The Porcupines moved to 9-2 in district while the Eagles dropped to 6-5. Both teams have clinched a playoff berth.
Leading 6-3, Kaylee Falcon started the big inning for Springtown with a bases-clearing double to left field. Sydney Masteron and Reiss DeLaFuente added RBI singles to extend the lead to 11-3.
Falcon went 4 for 4 with 3 runs batted in.
Brooklyn Mangus, Chloe Hammons and Lainey Cobb hit home runs for Decatur.
Buesing tosses 1-hit gem
Kate Buesing (Southern Nazarene) led the charge for Hebron with 1 hit across 7 innings during the Hawks’ 6-0 win over Braswell in District 5-6A on Tuesday night. Buesing struck out 13 Bengals.
Hebron (11-2) kept pace with Denton Guyer and Flower Mound on top the district standings with one game left in the regular season.
Liz Cardona went 4 for 4 with 3 doubles and 3 runs batted in. Buesing added 3 hits from the plate while Abby Chunn drove in 2 scores.
LaRoche has big night for Martin
Arlington Martin sophomore Alexa LaRoche had herself a night during the Warriors’ 17-2 win over Arlington Sam Houston in a District 8-6A game on Tuesday night.
The Texans took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a double by Armendariz.
LaRoche smacked a 2-1 pitch to deep right for a 3-run home run in the bottom of the first. Her triple in the second pushed Martin’s lead to 6-2.
Martin added 7 runs in the third with LaRoche’s 2-run double to center extended the margin to 12-2. LaRoche scored in the inning on an RBI double by Adrianna Correa, who drove in 4 runs.
LaRoche hit a 2-run home run in the fourth.
