RECAPS

TROPHY CLUB – For the better part of the past 20 years, the Keller softball team has always been the team to beat in district play. Byron Nelson defeated Keller 7-5 in the first meeting and was looking to complete the sweep at home on Tuesday night.

The Bobcats erased an early 2-0 deficit to beat the Indians 10-6 in a District 4-6A contest at Byron Nelson High School. They improved to 26-3-1 overall and 10-2 in district with 4 games left in the regular season. Keller fell to 20-9-1 overall and 9-4 in 4-6A.

Byron is in second – a half game back of Keller Timber Creek (11-2).

Keller is in fourth – 2 games ahead of Southlake Carroll (7-6).

The Indians took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. After getting back-to-back hits, Texas Tech signee Sydona Meiser hit an RBI single and was followed by Landry Beaman’s RBI sac-fly to right field.

But the lead didn’t last long as the Bobcats tied it in the bottom half of the inning.

Three walks in the inning turned into a 2-run single to center for Elle Dearing.

Byron Nelson took a 7-2 lead after 4 innings. In the bottom of the third, the Bobcats took the lead on a bases-loaded walk. Then Brooklyn Hanson hit a long fly ball to right for an RBI sac-fly and Courtney Julian ripped a pitch to left field for an RBI single.

On the play, the ball bounced away from the Keller left-fielder, scoring a second run and making it 6-2 before Julian was tagged at second base. Hanson slid into third for a triple to right center in the fourth and then scored on Bryson Farco’s single to center that gave Byron Nelson a 5-run advantage.

In the top of the fifth inning, Meiser hit a lead-off home run that hit the right-field pole to pull Keller within 7-3. The Indians added a second run in the frame on an RBI single to left field from Tinslee Cribbs that scored Beaman from second base.

Keller continued to rally with 2 more runs in the top of the sixth with Addi Clark’s 2-run single into right and the Byron Nelson lead was cut down to 7-6. The Bobcats got 3 insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth highlighted by an RBI double from Mackenzie Nelson.

The Bobcats had 12 runners in scoring position and left 5 runners on base.

The Indians also had 12 in scoring position with 7 left on base.

Richland takes down Birdville

Richland completed the sweep over cross-town rival Birdville 8-2 in District 6-5A on Tuesday night at Birdville High School. Richland beat Birdville 7-5 at home earlier this season.

Angelo State commit Stacy Jennings allowed just 1 hit in a complete-game effort and struck out 9 while walking 9 as well. Jennings walked the bases loaded in the bottom of the first inning, but had 3 strikeouts in the inning to keep it scoreless.

Richland extended the lead to 4-0 in the fifth with back-to-back infield RBI singles from Flores and Mia Berain.

The Hawks cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the fifth after Jennings issued back-to-back walks before Avery Rodriguez hit a 2-run double to right that made it 4-2.
