Hebron takes down top-ranked Guyer

Sparked by Abby Chunn’s home run, Hebron beat Denton Guyer 3-2 in District 5-6A on Thursday night.

The Hawks snapped Guyer’s 11-game win streak – giving the Wildcats just their second loss (24-2). Hebron is 19-8 overall and tied for second in district at 8-2.

Guyer is still first place at 9-1.

Chunn took a 2-2 pitch to deep left field for a 1-out solo home run in the fourth inning. After back-to-back walks, Molly Crowder added a 2-run single for a Hebron 3-0 lead.

The Wildcats scored 2 runs in the sixth on an RBI single from Madison Joyner and error on the Hawks. They led off the top of the seventh with the game-tying run on base. Olivia Green was hit by a pitch and then advanced to second on a bunt.

Hebron pitcher Kate Buesing got a grounder to second and her 11th strikeout to end the night.

Timber Creek gets district lead over Byron Nelson

Addi Inocencio hit a 2-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning as Keller Timber Creek took down Byron Nelson 2-1 in a District 4-6A game on Thursday night at Timber Creek High School. 

Byron Nelson grabbed 1-0 lead in the third when Kenzie Nelson drew a 2-out walk, stole second and scored on a single to center from Bryson Farco. 

In the bottom of the fifth, Brooklyn McNutt was hit by a pitch with 1 out before Inocencio came up to bat. Inocencio hit a 0-1 pitch to deep left field to give the Falcons a 2-1 lead. 

Byron Nelson had 2 runners on with 1 out in the seventh, but Inocencio struck out a batter and got a foul tip out that ended the game. 

Inocencio pitched 4 innings of relief and allowed 1 hit with 4 strikeouts. 

Timber Creek is 10-2 in district and 20-5-1 overall. 

Byron Nelson dropped to 9-2 and 25-3-1.

Boston College commit leads Country Day over HSAA

Junior Maddie Richey tossed a 3-hit shutout to lead FW Country Day past Dallas HSAA 2-0 in a non-district game on Thursday night at Country Day High School. 

Richey, who’s committed to Boston College, struck out 13 batters across 7 innings.

Richey struck out the first 6 batters and got offense from her catcher, Stephen F. Austin commit Ryleigh Hall, who smacked a lead-off home run in the bottom of the second inning. 

Richey hit a lead-off single to left field in the third and advanced to third on a single by Hall. Richey would score one batter later on a hard infield grounder from Gracie Fuller. 

HSAA had 2 runners in scoring position during the game.

Late home run pushes Southwest Christian by Grapevine Faith

Lara Langford hit a solo home run with 2 outs in the bottom of the sixth inning as FW Southwest Christian edged out Grapevine Faith 6-5 in TAPPS Division 2 District 1 on Thursday night at Southwest Christian High School. 

After going down 2-0 in the top of the first inning, the Eagles took a 3-2 lead in the bottom half of the inning – all with 2 outs. 

Southwest Christian loaded the bases with no outs following back-to-back hit batters and a walk to Langford. Faith got the next 2 batters out before the Eagles scored on an RBI single from Chloe Adams and RBI walks by Bella Roberts and Grace Hancock.

Lovejoy edges Walnut Grove

Gisela Boitmann and Izzy Guarriello combined for a 2-hit shutout as Lovejoy beat Prosper Walnut Grove 1-0 in District 9-5A on Thursday night.

Boitmann went 5 innings and struck out 4.

Guarriello pitched 2 innings and also picked up 4 strikeouts.

The only run came in the bottom of the sixth inning. Guarriello hit a lead off double to left field and advanced to third on a grounder by Torii Johannes. After a pop fly recorded the second out, Aubrey Struthers hit a fly ball in shallow right which resulted in a Walnut Grove error. Guarriello scored on the play for a Lovejoy 1-0 lead.
