Lake Ridge rallies to beat Weatherford
Mansfield Lake Ridge tied it in the bottom of the seventh inning and then scored on a walk-off error in the eighth to beat Weatherford 2-1 in District 3-6A on Tuesday night at Lake Ridge High School.
Weatherford (17-9, 5-2) led for 6 1/3 innings thanks to an RBI single from Logan Chaix in the top of the fifth that scored Brayden Lara.
Weatherford starting pitcher Cutter Kennedy was working a 2-hit shutout into the seventh, but gave up a lead-off double to Ivan Vargas. After a failed sac-bunt attempt for the first out, Jeremiah Thomas hit a hard grounder to first that resulted in a Weatherford error, scoring courtesy runner Calum Jones that tied the game at 1-1 for Lake Ridge.
In the bottom of the eighth, Jayde Austin led off the inning with a fly ball to left field and got to second base on an error. On the same play, the Kangaroos had a throwing error as Austin came around to score for a walk-off win.
Lake Ridge improves to 16-7-2 overall and 6-1 in district.
Joshua gets key win vs Centennial
Tre Everett had a triple and 3 RBIs to lead Joshua past Burleson Centennial 6-4 in District 8-5A on Tuesday night at Joshua High School.
Joshua pulls into second place in 8-5A while handing Centennial its first district loss. The Owls are 8-1 and 17-6-1 overall. The Spartans dropped to 8-1 and 15-8 overall.
Everett singled in Kallin Whisenant to give Joshua a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.
The Owls added 2 runs in the third on an RBI triple from Alek Aguirre and an RBI single by Hunter Strebeck.
All 9 batters came up in the Centennial fourth inning as the Spartans tied the game at 3-3 thanks to Joshua’s location issues. Centennial loaded the bases with 2 singles and an error before the Owls got the next 2 batters to strike out.
A wild pitch pulled Centennial within 3-1 and then back-to-back RBI walks tied the game.
Fischer Stalberger’s lead-off home run in the sixth gave the Spartans a 4-3 lead.
Everett hit a 2-run triple in the Joshua sixth that gave the Owls a 5-4 lead. Everett scored 1 batter later on a fielder’s choice by Nathaniel Chittum.
Fort Worth Christian slips past HSAA
Fort Worth Christian scored a run in the bottom of the ninth inning to walk off Dallas HSAA 3-2 in a non-district game at Fort Worth Christian School.
Jackson Perdue delivered a 1-out double to left in the ninth and was balked to third. Carney Griffin drove in Perdue with a single to right for the walk-off win for Fort Worth Christian (23-5-1).
Grady Emerson, a top MLB prospect for the Cardinals, went 2 for 4 at the plate with a double, a run scored and a stolen base.
Miles Sutphin drove in both runs for HSAA (22-10-1) going 3 for 3 at the plate, all singles.
Country Day blanks Cistercian with late run
Fort Worth Country Day score a run in the top of the seventh and held on to defeat Irving Cistercian 1-0 in an SPC North game at Cistercian High School.
Fulton Weaver reached on a 1-out passed ball on a third strike for Country Day (20-1 overall, 5-0 conference) and went to third on a 2-base error on the throw to first. Weaver came home on a squeeze bunt on the first pitch by Hayes Casey.
Carrick McPadden tossed 6 innings allowing just one hit with 2 strikeouts and no walks for the Falcons. Alex Wang was the hard-luck loser for Cistercian (3-13, 0-6) going 7 innings scattering 3 hits with an unearned run, 2 strikeouts and one walk.
