Prosper Walnut Grove boys extend winning streak
Mason Kutch, last year’s Gatorade Texas Player Of The Year, scored two goals and the defending champion Prosper Walnut Grove shut out Midlothian 3-0 in a Class 5A D1 regional semifinal game on Thursday in Garland.
The Wildcats improved to 28-0 this season.
They will play Frisco Emerson or Dallas Bryan Adams in the Region 2 final.
Last year, Walnut Grove beat San Antonio Southwest in the title game for the program’s first championship. The Wildcats finished off with a 26-0-2 record.
Following Thursday’s win, the Wildcats stretched their winning streak to 43 straight games and haven’t lost a game since April 2, 2024 against Frisco Wakeland during their inaugural season.
Kutch’s first goal came in the 6th minute to give Walnut Grove an early 1-0 lead. Just five minutes later and the DePaul commit picked up the brace with his second goal. Wheeler Clayton scored the final goal, which came in the 62nd minute.

Prosper Walnut Grove girls also knock off Midlothian
Prosper Walnut Grove girls started the doubleheader in Garland on Thursday night and needed one goal from Brynlie Ward in the 65th minute to beat Midlothian 1-0 in their Class 5A D1 regional semifinal match.
The Wildcats (21-2-1) advance to the Region 2 final to play Frisco Reedy or Lake Belton.
This is Walnut Grove’s first trip to the regional championship game.
Ward attempted a free kick in the 14th minute, but it took one bounce in the box before it was saved by the keeper. Another long attempt by Avalon Sitz in the 60th minute was caught. According to Matt Welch of the Star Local Media, Walnut Grove had several shots go off the crossbar.
Midlothian beat Walnut Grove in this round last season, also 1-0.
Midlothian came into the day as the only school district in the state with all four of its soccer teams in the regional semifinal (Midlothian and Midlothian Heritage boys and girls programs).
