The UIL announced its biennial realignment for the 2026-2028 school years on Monday morning – with new districts in football, volleyball and basketball.
I wasn’t sure where DeSoto might go? 5A or 6A? The Eagles usually have 5A D1 numbers, but always opt up to 6A where they are still among the best teams in the state. DeSoto won the 6A D2 title last season over CE King and is 3x state champs the past four seasons.
DeSoto was a part of the “District Of Doom” in 11-6A football along with Duncanville, Cedar Hill, Lancaster and Waxahachie. But DeSoto, Cedar Hill and Lancaster all submitted 5A D1 numbers. On Monday, we learned the trio is headed to Region 2 in 5A D1 – forming 8-5A D1 with DeSoto, CH, Lancaster, Burleson Centennial, Cleburne, Mansfield Summit, Mansfield Legacy and Midlothian.
Mansfield Legacy also dropped from 6A to 5A D1.
I saw a few mocks where the UIL might break up DeSoto, Cedar Hill and Lancaster with the Killeen/Waco area in the mix, but that didn’t become the case. You have to figure DeSoto becomes a big favorite to win the 5A D1 title after so much success at the 6A level.
