North Crowley promotes defensive coordinator DeMarcus Harris to head coach

After two seasons as a North Crowley football assistant, DeMarcus Harris was promoted to head coach on Thursday night. K104FM’s Ron Murray first broke the news on Twitter/X.

Harris came to North Crowley before the 2024 season as a special assistant and DC under Ray Gates.

Gates left NC for the University of North Texas in December to join Neal Brown’s staff. Gates was with the Panthers football program the past four seasons.

During Harris’ first year with the Panthers, they went 16-0 capped with a 50-21 win over Austin Westlake for the Class 6A D1 state championship, North Crowley’s second all time and first since 2003. The Panthers’ defense allowed 17.8 points per game.

North Crowley went 12-2 this past season and finished in the the regional final – a 33-21 loss against Allen. The defense allowed 19.1 points per game.

Prior to coming to North Crowley, Harris was the head coach at Mesquite High for three seasons where he posted a 13-19 record. Before Mesquite, Harris was a DC for Cedar Hill. He also spent time at Little Elm, Arlington Seguin and Dallas Hillcrest.
