After two seasons serving as a backup quarterback for TCU, Ken Seals will make his first career start for the Horned Frogs when they face #16 Southern Cal in the Alamo Bowl 8 pm Tuesday in San Antonio.

Josh Hoover, TCU’s usual starter, announced he was entering the transfer portal.

Seals has only appeared in three games this season with another six during his first season in 2024. He was 10 of 13 for 97 yards and one touchdown.

A 3-star quarterback out of Weatherford High School, Seals was rated in the Top 20 for pro-style quarterback in the nation by Rivals. He finished with over 6,500 total yards and 65 touchdowns in his final two seasons and even led the Kangaroos to their first playoff berth in over a decade.

Seals chose to go to Vanderbilt and started as a true freshman. He played and started in nine games and became just the third true freshman to start an SEC season opener since 1972. He finished with a 65% passing completion and a Vandy freshman record 1,928 yards.

He threw 12 touchdowns and was just the third Vandy true freshman to toss 1,000 yards in a season. Seals played in eight games and started seven times during his second season with Vandy – being limited with injury. Played in 10 games and started six times in 2023 as a redshirt sophomore – throwing for 1,200 yards and 11 touchdowns.

After four seasons – three playing seasons – he was the Vandy career leader in completion percentage at 60.5 percent and seventh in program history with 4,292 yards passing plus ninth all time with 28 passing touchdowns. Seals made his transfer to TCU before the 2024 season.

While starring at Weatherford HS, Seals also made a stellar freshman debut with Azle before moving over to play for the Kangaroos.
